Zionsville Arts Initiative

A to Z Guest Teacher Program

The Zionsville Arts Initiative (ZAI) announces a new program: A to Z (Arts to Zionsville Community Schools) Guest Teachers. With state-funded budget shortfalls in our schools, ZAI affirms that art programs should not be sacrificed. At a time when our teachers need support, the A to Z Guest Teacher program has been proactively developed to assist ZCS teachers by bringing working artists, art historians, and gallery owners into the classroom on a volunteer basis.

A to Z Guest Teachers began as a pilot program at Zionsville West Middle School in the second semester of the 2009-2010 school year with plans for expansion in 2010-2011. Artists can assist in the classroom for one period, one day, one week or more. Disciplines that can be explored include (but are not limited to): Architecture, Arts and crafts, Collage, Conceptual art, Decollage, Decorative art, Drawing, Found art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Mixed media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Typography, and Video Art.

By bringing working artists into the classroom, ZAI hopes it will in turn bring students and their families galleries and exhibitions. Guest Teachers can plan their school visit near an exhibit, an art show, or other event to draw prospective audiences. Current teachers are encouraged to give "incentive credit" to students for attending such outings. A to Z Guest Teachers can visit http://www.mysignup.com/AtoZGuestTeachers to sign up.
